Combined antifungal effects of the vapor phases of <i>Zataria multiflora</i> and <i>Cinnamomum zeylanicum</i> essential oils against <i>Aspergillus flavus</i> and <i>Penicillium citrinum</i> in vitro and cheese

The objective of this study was to evaluate the antifungal effects Zataria multiflora (ZEO) and Cinnamomum zeylanicum (CEO) essential oils in vapor phase against Aspergillus flavus Penicillium citrinum vitro cheese. activities vapors ZEO CEO were assessed by determining minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), fractional (FIC) index, inhibition zone diameters. Thymol (51.10%) cinnamaldehyde (77.82%) main constituents CEO, respectively. MIC values A. 25 12.5 μL/L P. 800 400 μL/L, results showed that combination phases could synergistically inhibit growth (FIC index = 0.75). In cheese, entirely inhibited vapors, even at very low concentrations (1/16 MIC). conclusion, potential be applied as effective natural antifungals alternatives synthetic preservatives
